🧠 ISOCS Industrial Webinar #4 – “Robotic Olfaction in Industry and Environment: Field Results and Perspectives”

·

Date: December 1st, 2025
Time: 2:00 pm – 2:45 pm (CET)
Speaker: Dr. Patrick P. Neumann, BAM (Germany)

ISOCS is pleased to announce the fourth session of the ISOCS Industrial Webinar Series, featuring a presentation by Dr. Patrick P. Neumann on the emerging role of Mobile Robotic Olfaction (MRO) in industrial and environmental monitoring.

🌍 Presentation Overview

Title: Robotic Olfaction in Industry and Environment: Field Results and Perspectives

Air pollution and hazardous gas leaks remain largely invisible yet highly consequential threats to health, safety, and the environment. Traditional fixed monitoring networks are often too sparse to detect critical emission hotspots—especially in complex industrial settings.

Mobile Robotic Olfaction (MRO) offers a transformative solution by combining ground robots, aerial drones, and stationary sensor networks into integrated systems capable of dynamic, wide-area monitoring.

In this session, Dr. Neumann will share real-world field results from recent deployments, including:

·        Robotic air quality monitoring in steel factories

·        Multimodal sensor networks at chemical sites

·        Gas tomography using laser-based sensing systems

The findings show how heterogeneous sensing systems can enhance coverage, leak localization, and AI-driven decision-making for real-time environmental management. The presentation will conclude with an open discussion on how MRO technologies can strengthen environmental safety, compliance, and efficiency in industrial contexts.
