SUMMARY:International Workshop on Dynamical Olfaction\, 30 June - 2 July\, 2010\, Brighton\, UK
DESCRIPTION:First call for Abstracts\, International Workshop on Dynamical Olfaction\, 30 June – 2 July\, 2010\, Brighton\, UK \n\n\n\nAnimals are able to experience complexly structured plumes of different combinations of chemicals as individual olfactory percepts. It appears that the olfactory system utilizes rich temporal dynamics to achieve this goal but exactly how is still an open challenge for modern neuroscience. In the last few years rapid progress has been made in our understanding of olfactory information processing. In this focused workshop on Dynamical Olfaction we will share recent developments\, both experimental and theoretical\, between the active researchers in the field. \n\n\n\nConfirmed keynote speakers include: \n\n\n\nMaxim Bazhenov\, University of California Riverside\, USAC. Giovanni Galizia\, University of Konstanz\, GermanyHong Lei\, The University of Arizona\, USAJohannes Reisert\, Monell Chemical Senses Center\, USAMark Stopfer\, National Institutes of Health\, USAMassimo Vergassola\, Institut Pasteur\, Paris\, France\n\n\n\nThe programme committee is formed by \n\n\n\nJean-Pierre Rospars\, INRA VersaillesDominique Martiney\, LORIA Nancy & INRA VersaillesThomas Nowotny\, University of SussexSylvia Anton\, INRA Versailles\n\n\n\nThe workshop is financed by the BBSRC in the framework of the PheroSys project\, part of the ANR-BBSRC SysBio initiative. Registration IS FREE OF CHARGE but mandatory for our planning. \n\n\n\nImportant Dates: \n\n\n\nFirst call for abstracts (this call)February 12\, 2010Registration opensMarch 15\, 2010Deadline for abstract submissionsApril 15\, 2010Abstract acceptance notificationsApril 30\, 2010The workshop startsJune 30\, 2010\n\n\n\nParticipation is limited to 100 participants. Contributors will have preferential treatment over other participants. \n\n\n\nTo submit an abstract\, direct your browser tohttp://www.informatics.sussex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/users/tn41/signupPhero2010/abstract \n\n\n\nFurther information is available and will be updated regularly on the workshop websitehttp://www.informatics.sussex.ac.uk/users/tn41/PheroSys2010/index.html \n\n\n\nIf you have additional questions\, please contact the local organiser\, Chris Buckley at C.L.Buckley@sussex.ac.uk .

SUMMARY:5th International Symposium Percepnet: Olfative Perception: Emotion\, Information and Education
DESCRIPTION:Olfactory perception: emotion\, information\, education \n\n\n\nSmell is a “door in the shadows” of our sensory system\, one channel through which information pours mind is barely able to process and less streamlined. And yet\, of that information depends largely on our health care and quality of life\, our system of preferences\, our emotions and even our social position. We have more inertia that initiatives regarding the use of olfactory perception\, and despite this\, almost no one today is how to learn to use a tool such powerful. \n\n\n\nIt’s time to learn\, reflect and discuss some of the specific properties of the olfactory system and its influence increasingly explicit in the diganosis medical\, food\, identity and consumption. \n\n\n\nTOMORROW8:00 a.m. Attendees Reception \n\n\n\nWelcome 8:15 a.m. organization Jaume Estruch\, president of SECS Josep de Haro\, Congress president PS2010 \n\n\n\n8:30 a.m. Opening Ana Isabel Pérez Neira\, vice chancellor for research Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)  \n\n\n\nDEBATE SESSION I \n\n\n\nThe processing of olfactory information using optimization mechanisms that influence learning and memory. However\, there are performances of olfactory perception beyond the identification of aromatic molecules. The sensomedicina\, a rapidly expanding discipline\, polls sensory profiles generated prematurely in the brain of patients with neurodegenerative diseases and that shows us that reality is a compromise between experience and processing capacity. \n\n\n\n9:00 a.m.: sensory receptors and SENSOMEDICINA OLFACTORY Moderator: Laura Lopez Mascaraque\, Instituto Cajal\, CSIC\, Madrid \, Pierre-Marie Lledo 9:10 a.m. Laboratory of Perception and Memory\, Pasteur Institute\, CNRS\, France “The flexible olfactory brain”Adolfo Toledano Muñoz 9:40 a.m.Fundación Hospital Alcorcón\, Madrid. Member of Spanish Olfactory Network “Role of olfaction in neurologic dysfunction (Alzheimer\, Parkinson) \n\n\n\n10:10 a.m. to 10:25 a.m. Debate \n\n\n\nSENSORY EXPERIENCE 10:25 a.m. [COFFEE] \n\n\n\nDISCUSSION SESSION II \n\n\n\nEating is a balancing act between our needs and low food availability. When the abundance reverses the equation activate mechanisms that avoid excessive intake. Abundant statistical work around the world are overweight in the population show that in modern societies these mechanisms are no longer efficient. So science is looking for\, and finding\, answers in other areas such as in information theory and sensorial anthropology: are new paradigms for new forms of food. \n\n\n\n10:50 a.m.: SMELL AND FOOD. INFLUENCE AND DEPENDENCE Moderator: Francesc Montejo\, Flavours Inn Rianne Ruijschop 10:50 a.m. NIZO Food Research\, The Netherlands “Induction of Satiety by sensory profiles»Monica Flores 11:20 a.m.IATA\, CSIC\, Valencia “Aroma and flavor. The paradigm meat (hamburger at jabugo) \n\n\n\n11:50 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Debate \n\n\n\n24:10: CULTURE smell. PHYSIOLOGICAL BASES\, EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL Moderator: Pere Monagas\, CRESCA-UPC Camille 24:20 Ferdenzi Affective Swiss Center for Sciences (CISA)\, University of Geneva\, Switzerland\, “Olfactory perception: Why Gender Matters”24:50 Mara DierssenCenter for Genomic Regulation (CRG)\, PRBB “The mouse chocoadicto: influence of odor in binge eating” \n\n\n\n1:20 p.m. to 1:35 p.m. Debate \n\n\n\nSENSORY EXPERIENCE 1:35 p.m. [LUNCH] AFTERNOON \n\n\n\nSCIENTIFIC POSTERS \n\n\n\nCoordinator: Carlos Dominguez\, IMB-CNM\, CSIC 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Visit poster\, presentation and discussion PRESENTATIONS \n\n\n\n3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Sponsors SECS Upcoming events: Workshop 2010\, SQS2011\, PS2012  \n\n\n\nWORKSHOPS  \n\n\n\nSmell is a paradigm of personal identity\, consumer and prescriber emotional factor. The relationship between smell and forms a complex genre that goes beyond theory to settle in the everyday. Educating the senses\, smell is to educate our ability to perceive reality. School professionals\, researchers need an education program that enhances their capabilities. \n\n\n\n4:15 p.m.: THE SMELL\, PARADIGM OF IDENTITY\, AND CONSUMER Prescriber EDUCATION FACTOR Moderator: Francesc Fort\, James Woods Advisors Joël Candau 4:30 p.m. Université de Nice-Sophia Antipolis\, France “Essentialism sensory and Identity” \n\n\n\nJean-Noël Jaubert 5:30 p.m. IAP Sentic\, Evreux\, France ‘Senses education methods. The field of odor “ \n\n\n\nJaume Estruch 6:30 p.m. Spanish Society of Sensory Science (SECS) Education sensory presentation of educational and training program of SECS ‘ \n\n\n\n7:00 p.m. Conclusions\, closing and farewell
